Kids Today delves into Juvenile Store Operations and Merchandising in its exclusive 2009 Juvenile Store Operations and Merchandise Report. This report gives an overview of what’s going with specialty retailers as well as provides a snapshot of what age groups account for the most sales and what product categories retailers are carrying. It also presents information on advertising methods and what types of advertising specialty retailers are investing in for today’s economic climate.
Responding retailers represent more than 250 juvenile specialty stores and are representative of all regions of the U.S. Thirty percent of responding retailers cited their store locations as Northeast, 28% as South, 22% and 20%, respectively, for the Midwest and West. Half of responding retailers are members of buying groups and 14% are part of a franchise. Nearly three-fifths generate annual sales of less than $1 million, while one-third have an annual sales volume between $1 million and $5 million.
