Since 2005 the number of births has been declining; however, preliminary numbers for 2011 indicate the number of births slowed to a decrease of 1.1% from 2010, less than the 3.2% drop from 2009 to 2010, according to the National Center for Health Statistics.
In addition to the most recent birth statistics from the National Center for Health Statistics, this report also features the latest data on child care arrangements. In 2011, 61% of children under five years of age were in some type of regular child care arrangement, including relative care, an organized care facility and other nonrelative care. The percentage of preschoolers, with employed mothers, in an organized facility grew the most, 6% from 2005 to 2011.
