JCK 2008 Salary Survey

The 2008 JCK Salary Survey is four pages of survey findings about jewelry industry salaries, benefits, problems, and opportunities according to retailer and supplier respondents. Findings reveal pay by region and job title and provide insight into pay disparities by gender.

Every year, JCK surveys the U.S. fine jewelry industry regarding compensation and benefits by job title and region, and about its job satisfaction and concerns. Results from both retailers and suppliers are tabulated. Findings help businesses benchmark pay and practices as well as reveal areas where improvements can be made.

Survey methodology: Some 10,000 surveys were e-mailed to JCK readers, and a hard copy was mailed to 600 previous respondents to the JCK Salary Survey. Some 892 persons responded, including 494 retailers, 227 suppliers, and 171 in other positions.

Included in the article are, for retailers and suppliers:

Details of average annual compensation packages (including average bonus and commission)
Details of benefits (like paid vacation and sick days)
Types of pay (base salary, no bonus or commission) and pay by job title (including owner and designer)
Job concerns (such as outsourcing)
Year-over-year staffing changes and overall staff reductions by region
Factors affecting job satisfaction (such as feeling of recognition)
Salary comparisons by region and gender
