*From the May 2009 print issue of Home Accents Today*
Home Accent Today’s exclusive imports report is based on the value of imports as appraised by the U.S. Customs Service. This value is defined as the price actually paid or payable for merchandise, excluding U.S. import duties, freight, insurance, and other charges. The numbers are coded according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and made available to Home Accents Today by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. International Trade Commission.
While a great many home accents products are imported, Home Accents Today has reviewed import statistics for seven categories. Because of the complexities of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule, it is important to recognize the numbers in this report may not include all imported products in these categories. They do, however, represent the large portion of them and will show trends in imports of the categories.
Import data for 2008 and 2007 is provided for the following seven product categories:
-Hand-woven, hand-hooked carpets, rugs
-Lamps
-Lighting
-Mirrors
-Permanent botanicals
-Prints, posters, lithographs, oils, paintings, etc.
-Decorative accessories, including sculpture, statuary, statuettes, household decorative ornaments of various materials including glass, ceramics, earthenware, wood, porcelain, metal, plastic or resin.
