Based on a survey of gifts and home accent vendors, conducted by our research department, this year’s report spotlighted vendors’ expectations for 2009 against the background of similar surveys conducted in 2008 and 2007. The report includes what vendors think will be important in colors, licenses and which design directions they feel are rising or fading from favor. Despite the gloomy economic outlook, gifts and decorative accessories vendors are upbeat and looking for better days ahead. The Survey: Data for this year’s report were collected by fax and an online survey form during September and October, 2008 and is based on the answers of more than 200 manufacturers. Products manufactured by more than one-third of the vendors surveyed include home accent pieces and holiday décor. One-quarter offer candles and candle accessories. Between one-fifth and one-quarter produce garden décor, frames and desk accessories, stationary and greeting cards, collectibles and baby or infant items.
