Strategizing to Survive
Originally printed in Gifts and Decorative Accessories' December 2009 issue
This year’s exclusive report focuses on gifts and home accessories vendors’ outlook for 2010 and benchmarks the current year’s findings against results from similar surveys conducted in 2008 and 2007. Included in the report are vendors’ take on what’s rising and fading in designs and what they see as important in color schemes and licenses. While putting a cautious face on things, vendors are even more upbeat about 2010 than they were about 2009.
Also included are details on products offered by vendors with their projections for price point changes between 2009 and 2010. In addition manufacturers reveal which channels they are distributing through, who are their most important channels of distribution and which one they are projecting as the fastest-growing channel for 2010.
Data for this year’s report was collected by fax and an online survey during September and October, 2009 and is based on the responses of close to 200 manufacturers. Nearly one-half of the vendors surveyed produce home accent pieces and holiday décor. About one-third offer candles and candle accessories and frames and desk accessories. Vendors typically offer at least four different products to their clients.
