This exclusive research report continues a series of annual surveys of retailers in the gifts and decorative accessories marketplace. This year’s survey included percentage of sales, percentage of retailers carrying, median number of lines carried and median low, best-selling and highest price points for the core sales leaders, the Fantastical Four and the Go-To 10. Store operational details included space allocation, hours, sales timing, close ratio, and kinds of advertising and their expenses. New to the report this year was an assessment of just how green in their store operations gift and accessories retailers are now or are planning to become. With over one-half of retailers currently having a web site, specifics about web site features and online sales were also measured.
More than 150 storefronts are represented in the exclusive analysis with three-fifths describing themselves as gift specialists. Just about all the stores are independently owned, family-owned or a franchise. More franchise stores were in the mix this year than have been in the past.
