Originally published in the September 5, 2011 print issue of Furniture Today The Top 25 Bedding Retailers collectively enjoyed a strong year in 2010, posting an 8.8% gain in bedding revenues. That august group, which generated more than $5 billion in bedding revenues last year, featured 10 retailers who posted double-digit revenue gains. And four standouts — the Ashley Furniture HomeStores, Sears, Bob's Discount Furniture and Tempur-Pedic — managed to achieve 20%-plus bedding revenue gains. Furniture/Today's exclusive Top 25 Bedding Retailers report ranks the retailers based on their bedding revenues. This year's list features the same players in the Top 10 positions, although two of those companies switched positions. The Berkshire Hathaway furniture division, No. 10 on the list last year, now moves into the No. 9 spot, while Mattress Giant drops from No. 9 to No.10. This exclusive survey ranks the Top 25 bedding retailers based on estimated 2010 sales of conventional mattresses and boxsprings, as well as foam bedding, futons, air beds, adjustable beds and waterbeds. Estimated figures do not include sales of headboards, frames, mattress pads, pillows and other related products. All sales figures, except those of publicly held companies that break out bedding sales as a separate line of business, are Furniture Today market research estimates. Data is based on the 12-month period ending closest to Dec. 31, 2010. Company notes include the date of the fiscal year end or the 12-month periods that deviate from that date. Sales estimates were derived from a variety of sources, including the recently published ranking of the Top 100 Furniture Stores, the companies themselves, discussions with industry suppliers and analysts and public company filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. *4 pages* Please Note: PDF file.
