The next two years are positioned to be good ones for master bedroom according to results from Furniture/Today's most recent consumer survey, conducted in January in partnership with HGTV. The exclusive data shows master bedroom on the shopping lists of two-thirds of overall respondents.
U.S. households spent $8.4 billion on master bedroom furniture in 2011. Master bedroom accounts for 11% of all furniture and bedding sales and is the largest case goods category in terms of retail dollars.
The bed is the number one product buyers plan to buy for the master. Four-fifths of consumers planning to buy master furniture in 2012 or 2013 say they'll purchase one. Additionally, 58% of buyers will look for a nightstand and more than half a new mattress.
Furniture/Today and HGTV's January 2012 Consumer Views Survey received responses from 3,465 U.S. consumers. The survey fielded as part of HGTV's Inspiration weekly e-newsletter. Because of the large sample size, the survey data can be projected, within this population, with a margin of error of plus or minus 1.7%.
