Which stationary sofa features are most important to consumers? Which fabric colors and styles do consumers prefer? This and more is answered in Furniture/Today's exclusive 2011 Consumer Views Survey.
“Comfort, comfort, comfort! A sofa can look pretty, but if you don’t want to sit on it, then it’s not going to do much good.” That’s the opinion of a 27-year-old from Florida, one of the more than 6,600 U.S. consumers answering Furniture/Today and HGTV’s latest survey on upholstery.
She’s not alone in her thoughts either. Nine out of 10 respondents cite comfort as important when shopping for and buying upholstery, making it the most important feature.
Durability is also crucial to 85% of consumers. A 30-year-old from Louisiana explains that she “wants her purchase to last for many years to come.” And, a 52-year-old from Missouri shops for a durable sofa for her “two large dogs who sneak onto the furniture.” The same is true for many respondents in their 20’s to 40’s who have children living at home.
Furniture/Today and HGTV's January 2011 Consumer Views Survey received responses from 6,612 U.S. consumers. The survey fielded as part of HGTV’s Ideas weekly e-newsletter. Because of the large sample size, the survey data can be projected, within this population, with a margin of error of plus or minus 1.2%.
