Estimates from comScore put furniture and bedding’s 2008 online sales at about $4.6 billion or 3.5% of all e-commerce retail sales. Total online retail sales, excluding travel, event tickets and digital downloads, totaled $132.4 billion in 2008, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. This exclusive report pulls information and statistics from several sources. Primary sources include Furniture Today’s 2009 Consumer Views Survey with HGTV and sister publication Home Accents Today’s 2008 Consumer Views Survey with HGTV. Secondary data sources include comScore, Inc., eMarketer, PriceGrabber.com, the U.S. Department of Commerce and Forrester Research. The data from Furniture Today and HGTV’s 2009 Consumer Views Survey is based on the responses of 4,906 U.S. consumers. Furniture Today, in partnership with HGTV, surveyed consumer households via an online survey linked to HGTV's Ideas newsletter in January 2009. Because of the large sample size, the survey data can be projected within this population with a margin of error of plus or minus 1.4%.
