Outdoor furniture imports reached $2.5 billion in 2011, up 8.7% from 2010 according to the latest numbers from the U.S. Customs Service, U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. International Trade Commission. Outdoor furniture imports from China were $2.2 billion in 2011, an increase of nearly 10% from the prior year. The United States received 85% of its outdoor furniture imports from China last year; with a combined 9% coming from Canada, Indonesia, Taiwan and Mexico; the remaining 6% came from all other countries.
New for 2012, Casual Living partnered with Minnesota-based Zepol Corp. to research the number of twenty-foot equivalent (TEU) containers with outdoor furniture leaving Asia in 2011. The data was gathered using information on the bills of lading for containers being shipped.
