Nine out of 10 casual designers focus on entertaining friends and family when designing outdoor spaces for clients, according to the exclusive 2015 Causal Living Designer Survey. Relaxing was the next activity at 86%, followed by grilling/cooking/barbequing at 84%.
This year, designer clients say they are spending more on outdoor furniture, grills and accessories compared to what was reported in the 2014 Designer Survey. The project dollar value for outdoor accessories, items such as rugs, statuaries, and wall décor, soared 82, from $1,100 in 2014 to $2,000 in 2015. The average dollar value of outdoor furniture and grills increased 37% and 25% respectively. Conversely, designer clients are spending 11% less this year on outdoor lighting.
Casual Living's exclusive 2015 Designers Survey is based on responses of indoor and outdoor designers across the United States. Casual Living and the Interior Design Society queried designers during the month of June.
Thirty-four percent of responding designers describe their business model as freelance/independent; and 21% are landscape designers. Fourteen percent of respondents have their own interior design firm; 9% are associated with a furniture store or construction firm each; and 7% are associated with a casual furniture specialist.
