Retailers and designers alike predict in 2012 that the gray color group will grow in popularity, according to Casual Living's exclusive 2012 Fabric Survey. The survey revealed the brown color group is slipping in popularity, although it remains the top performing fabric color group for 2012 for outdoor cushions, slings/straps and decorative pillows.
Fielded in October and November, Casual Living's annual fabric survey presents 2012 fabric color and pattern projections for more than 100 outdoor furniture retail stores and designers. Half of the respondents are outdoor specialty retailers, three-eighths are designers and the remaining one-eighth are garden centers, direct-to-consumer retailers and home improvement centers. Responding retailers operate an average of three stores. Respondents in the South accounted for 41% of the sample, 25% percent in the Midwest, 24% in the West and the remaining 10% in the Northeast. Seventeen percent of the respondents had under $1 million in annual sales for 2011, 49% had $1 million to $4.99 million and 22% had $5 million to $9.99 million. Two percent of respondents had $10 million to $19.99 million in annual sales for 2011 and 10% had $20 million or more.
The survey was conducted by Casual Living's research team, led by Research Analyst, Stephanie Nickell.
