Casual Living’s annual fabric survey, conducted by fax and online in October and November of 2006, represents responses of more than 300 casual furniture retail outlets carrying either dining groups or separate seating pieces. Four-fifths of them offer seating with both cushions and slings. Retailers reported on fabric sales based on unit sales.
Casual furniture specialists make up one-half of the retailers answering the survey. Hearth and patio stores, pool and patio stores and full-line furniture stores make up another nearly two-fifths. The remaining retailers include garden centers, hardware/home improvement centers, interior designers, direct-to-consumer retailers, design studios and trade showrooms.
When it comes to annual sales, four-fifths of the responding retailers have annual sales of less than $5 million; 13% have annual sales between $5 million and $10 million, and 7% have annual sales of $10 million or more.
Two-fifths of the respondents were in the South; one-fourth from the Northeast. The balance was evenly split between the West and Midwest.
