Originally published in the June 14, 2004 issue of Furniture/Today Note: This report is updated every other year.
This exclusive survey ranks Canada’s leading retailers
based on estimated 2003 sales of furniture and
bedding.
Sales estimates were derived from a variety of
sources, including public filings, the companies
themselves and discussions with industry suppliers
and analysts.
The Revenue Canada official U.S. dollar exchange
rates of 1.4010 for 2003 and 1.5703 for
2002 were used to calculate sales estimates.
In cases of identical 2003 sales, which happened
with Staples/Business Depot and United Furniture
Warehouse, the retailer with the fastest sales
growth is ranked higher.
All sales figures, except those of publicly held
companies which break out furniture and bedding
sales as a separate line of business, are Furniture/
Today market research estimates. Data is based on
fiscal years ended Dec. 31, unless otherwise noted.
Total Canadian furniture and bedding sales include
sales from office supply stores, and exclude
sales of patio and lawn furniture.
All figures are rounded.
The ranking was compiled by Canadian Correspondent
Michael Knell, who wrote the stories,
Director of Market Research Kay Anderson, and
Senior Research Specialist Dana French, with help
from Database Coordinator Cynthia Myers.
